This principle has been the most long\u00adstanding idea to extract oxygen from the materials of the lunar surface. The ALCHEMIST-ED technology demonstrator serves to explore this process in a laboratory environment on a semi-industrial scale. We introduce the lunar geological baselines, give an overview of the system and discuss the challenges associated with the process.
