The probe is cooled using an open cycle gaseous cooling jacket terminating in a pattern of backward oriented ejection holes. The cooling jacket has been sized using a 1D heat transfer model and requires a head pressure of 3 bar to satisfy the thermal limits of the stainless-steel walls (800 K) and enclosed instrumentation (315 K). The effusion cooling effectiveness of the probe is further characterized through a parametric study using 3D steady RANS simulations from subsonic to high supersonic conditions. Experimental tests have been conducted in an underexpanded open jet at \ud835\udc401 = 1.07 and \ud835\udc4701 = 370 K using \u201cin-situ\u201d calibrated Infrared thermography to resolve the conjugate cooling effectiveness of the probe across the effusion faces.
