Minton<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DOI Number XXX-YYY-ZZZ<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conference Number HiSST-2022-435<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new \u201ctable-top shock tunnel (TTST)\u201d has been constructed and is intended to allow rapid and lowcost measurements of shock-layer chemistry and material response in well-characterized high-velocity<br>flows. The TTST is based on the production of pulsed hypersonic molecular beams by laser detonation<br>in a conical nozzle. In addition to providing fundamental data for the development of models, the<br>production of controlled shock layers above ablating and non-ablating surfaces and the measurement<br>of their phenomenology provide a means to validate new models. Furthermore, material response can<br>be tested in realistic environments and aid in the development of materials for hypersonics applications.<br>Initial characterization of the TTST has been carried out by studying the ablation phenomenology of a<br>Kapton H polyimide surface exposed to a hypersonic O\/O2 beam at various distances from the nozzle<br>throat and comparing the experimental observations with the results of DSMC calculations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/aerospacerepository.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/HiSST-2022-435.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/aerospacerepository.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/HiSST-2022-435.pdf\">Read the full paper > <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><b>Brian E.
