The criteria of Simeonides and Berry have been investigated, and their results are compared with the experimental data and with the results of the numerical solution of the RANS equations with the transition turbulence model. Methodical studies were carried out for a flat plate, and for cones with different angles at the apex at zero and nonzero angles of attack. The studies were carried out in the range of Mach numbers M = 2 \u00f7 10 and Reynolds numbers Re = (3 \u00f7 45) \u2219 106 .
