The requirements for modal testing of manned aircraft are not demanding in terms of frequency range, size or weight of sensors, or power required to perform the tests. Yet typical GVT systems used for this purpose are expensive and the inner workings are often obscured from the user. This paper presents a concept for an affordable and relatively easy to construct GVT system. The system makes use of distributed computing and the CAN bus.
