A procedure for finite element (FE) model update after a ground vibration test (GVT) has been developed and tested for a test aircraft of the new Gripen E fighter, at Saab Aeronautics. A GVT is often the first feedback obtained concerning the dynamic properties of a new aircraft and the first chance to evaluate the FE-model that has been used during the development. After the GVT, the eigenfrequencies and mode shapes are evaluated and this data has been be used to update the FE-model such that it better represents the dynamic properties of the test object. The paper describes a series of model update procedures made on an FE-model, used for global analyses, such as flutter and load distribution, of a Gripen E test aircraft as well as FE-models of external stores and pylons.
